Ibiza has an abundance of restaurants just waiting to be explored so whatever you palette you are sure to be able to find that special place. With such a varied and wide selection it is difficult to decide so we hope that our guide can help. In the summer time Ibiza is a 24 hour island and the hours the restaurants open reflect this. The Mediterranean way of eating has always revolved around long lunches and late meals and here on the island that is no different. It isn’t unheard of booking a table in a top restaurant at 2am before heading into a club. Likewise bagel and croissant place will open up to serve food to the late night partygoers on their way to bed
As a relatively small island many dishes are influenced by the fresh fish is caught on a daily basis, with many of the restaurant owners making the early morning trip to ensure the best catch of the day. Sample the island fish stew, grilled flat fish or a mouth-watering seared tuna steak. The Sushi revolution has not bypassed Ibiza and many Sushi bars have opened up on the island – great for health conscious.
Even when driving around in the countryside you can stumble on some fantastic restaurants that specialise in meat on the grill, potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables – you can experience some of the best steaks at these places. Wherever you go don’t forget to ask for Pan Y Ali Oli – this is bread and a garlic mayonnaise typical of Ibiza – if the garlic is not for you then just put a glug of quality and locally produced olive oil on top.
For high end dining Ibiza is number one with many of the most popular restaurants becoming reserved weeks in advance. Over the last few years has also seen an increase in the 5 star hotels and with each of these comes a choice of restaurants. High end dining is perfect for enjoying a romantic meal you do not wish to forget or celebrating that special occasion.
Paella is one of the national dishes of Spain and there is no better place to enjoy than on a beach staring out to sea, drinking a glass of Sangria with friends – perfect before a lazy siesta. On almost every beach you are spoiled for choice with fantastic restaurants offer huge day beds to chill out on, service at your sun bed and much more.
Tapas is another great way to experience the traditional dishes, this can be enjoyed either as a snack or order several plates as main meal and just wondering around the little back streets of any resort will eventually land you at a tapas bar. Tapas favourites include Jamon Serrano (cured ham), albondigas (meat balls) fried calamari (squid), tortilla Espanyol (Spanish omelette) and many more – one advantage is each dish is inexpensive meaning you can try more! Buy just because you are in Spain doesn’t mean you have to always eat Spanish so why not opt for Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Indian , Argentinean – the list goes on and every cuisine is catered for.
