Planning your Wedding

The First decision you are going to have to make is what kind of service you are going to have for your Ibiza wedding?

Are you going ot have a Catholic church wedding? A Non-Catholic church wedding? Or a Non-religious Blessing or Spiritual Ceremony?

Our guide can help you make the decision on what kind of wedding is suitable for you.

Congratulations, if you are reading this then your wedding planning has already began. The First decision you are going to have to make is what kind of service you are going to have for your Ibiza wedding.

The majority of weddings here in Ibiza are actually wedding blessings. The legal ceremony takes place either before (most common) or after your Ibiza blessing. Spain is a devout Catholic country and so it is only possible to have a “legal” wedding if one of you are Catholic or Spanish residents.

Non-Religious Blessing or Spiritual Ceremony

A non-religious blessing or spiritual ceremony is the most popular choice for non-island residents to get married here in Ibiza. This takes place with a ceremony host / celebrant and is a more relaxed atmosphere that can be tailored to your requirements. Luxury villas, Private Boats, Cliff top venues, hotels – the options are endless.

Non-religious ceremonies offer the greatest flexibility and give you a chance to create a ceremony that is truly memorable.

Catholic Ceremony

In Ibiza you can be legally married if at least one of you is Catholic, this ceremony can be held a church and can be in either English or Spanish. The application process can be quite lengthy and the church insists on having hands on approach. The priest will guide you through all the necessary paperwork. To begin this process, it is best to speak with your local priest who can advise on religious requirements and in turn will contact a priest here in Ibiza.

If you are a resident of Spain, you can marry in a town hall or in a Catholic church.

Non-Catholic Ceremony

The Anglican church offer the ‘Sacrament of Marriage’ (regarded as the full marriage ceremony) this service can be held in selected church’s across Ibiza and the service is conducted in English.
Having a legal marriage certificate beforehand in the UK is a requirement and the Anglican church or “English Speaking Church” can assist with this. Details can be found on their website.
